Very interesting. What really hit home was "Why does it turn out that when I finally show up, I hear exactly what I need to hear? Do I make the sermon work for me or is God doin his job?" It wasn't that I finally showed up, it was the fact that I showed up period. The bits and pieces I heard made me think. Now I am thankful that I did listen and looking forward to showing up more often. But as you said, don't shove it down my throat and answer my questions with an answer, not a verse...

Awesome post title! I saw in the @sgfblogs Twitter feed and just HAD to click through! Your conclusion made literally LOL, but totally agree with what you said about so many "Christians" who must be worshiping another God, one is less forgiving. It does so much damage for the God you and I follow. :(

And the people said 'Amen!' Like you, my faith is very personal. If you ask, I'll tell you, but if not, I can only hope my actions speak for me and what I believe - do unto others.

Your analogy is perfect.

Carie, When I very first met you, I was a little intimidated. You are gorgeous, smart and outgoing and that can be intimidating for a mouse like myself :-). But I quickly figured out you are open, honest, sincere and kind -- so very kind. Your concerns about others are genuine and heartfelt and you are driven by the need to do the right thing. Anyone who spends more than a few moments with you will see this.
I understand why you resist confrontation. It sucks, frankly, to have to step up to someone. But you did the right thing, and I admire and applaud you for it.

Maybe you should think of it like a secret superpower... intimidationator?

I try to tell myself I don't care what other people think of me, but in reality, it matters more than I will admit. But, I still doubt I scare anyone.

Can I tell you what my favorite part of evolving with age has been? LETTING GO. Finding a way to not just accept myself but to no longer feel a need to assign blame. To have the grace of understanding that even when others hurt me it has so much less to do with any intention on their part and so much more to do with the fact that they themselves are just trying to muddle through this crazy thing we call life. Letting go is one of the hardest things we have to learn to do. Maybe it's letting go of the need for control. Maybe it's letting go of a need for perfection. Maybe it's letting go of someone we love as they journey onward from this life to the next. It feels like learning to let go has been the most empowering thing that has happened to me in my adult life. And yet, somehow I have a feeling that even though I feel like I have so much figured out right now, in just a few short years I will look back once again and realize that I didn't really know that much at all. And I welcome that opportunity...because like you said, I like myself now. How cool am I gonna be then?

Wow, great piece. Really enjoying your blog and loving the theme.
Working my way back...slowly. Could you, like, do a 'best of' blog post for us late comers?
